I’m taking a few days off work this week — actually I’m taking the whole week off — I’m lucky, I get to spend it with my kids on their half term (added benefit is letting my better half have the opportunity to not go mental having to figure out what to do with them under her feet for nine whole days).

What I want to try and do this week is rediscover how to get bored. To switch off every screen, every device, every distraction and just get comfortable in my own skin. I want to let my thoughts run in every direction without restriction or, well, thought.

I started today though I have to admit, I sneaked a peek or two at the phone every now and then. But ultimately, it was great. Apart from settling into my big armchair and getting through a few of the Economists I’ve been hoarding since the back end of last year, I doodled and scribbled, drew and wrote, spoke and sat.

I’m looking forward to a few more days like this next week, and hopefully I’ll make getting bored a permanent part of how I live my life from now on in.
