I found a new way to dream

There is a war against dreamers.

In a world of achievement gaps, soaring tuition and college debt, we are constantly placed in the impossible situation of choosing to do what we love or having the money to survive.

I believe the problem we have with dreaming today is that we are conditioned to go after it instantaneously and if we fail, we easily bruise, and we might get back up.

We are not always in the best scenario to instantly go after a dream we have always wanted.

I have started to look at my dreams as a meticulous strategic attack — a marathon, not a sprint, and my personal secret mission.

I TELL NO ONE, initially.

Not even my friends or close family members know until I have already started. The people you love always mean well, but sometimes they can place small seeds in your logic that slowly start to manifest and create a home. Avoid overly pragmatic people, “realists” or pessimists. They will plant a seed of doubt, and weeks later, that lovely plant of doubt is full grown.

Avoid them like the plague.

They are the people you should tell after you accomplish it. They can hurt you in the initial phases. One of the most harmful things they do without realizing it is ask questions like: why, how, did you, don’t you need a ___?

How do I know this? I am guilty of it myself. Why?

Because humans are natural problem solvers.

We are subconsciously piecing things together in our heads all the time. This is why we love a good TV show with an unpredictable plot, creep on people via social media or participate in petty gossip post-teenage years. We love piecing things together.

The problem with that is, your dream isn’t always going to come to you perfectly packaged with all the answers beautifully wrapped in a bow.

That’s the difference between a dream and a goal.

Consulting yourself first, and beginning is the best way to work out your own kinks — instead of waiting for someone to poke holes before your dream is fully developed. Just know it will reveal itself to you in completion. Not always at once.

Most importantly, while it is important to not allow the seeds of doubt to grow — being proactive and nourishing your dream seed is necessary. Plant multiple. Seeds are very small, which is great for you because it means your seed does not have to be an elaborate giant first step. It can be something so small as an inspirational wallpaper or a sticky note you walk past every morning.

You need something to remind you on the rough days when it seems that plant of doubt is taking up roots, that your dream is still there — building roots, and growing stronger.

With that being said, I’m on a couple secret missions, planting a few seeds and answering my own questions.
