The Wetlands by Nicole Ivy

I took a walk through the wetlands in a Northern Florida forest and thought about how often I feel amazement. This was one of those perfect moments. The ground was a sopping wet lime green mossy sponge sprinkled with orange pine needles. It undulated as I walked and sunk into it. I loved the squishy sounds and the water bubbling through the soupy earth.

The low evening sun was feathering through the Spanish moss dangling off of the skinny cypress trees. I felt like I had stepped into another world. I unexpectedly fell in love with the unsteadiness of the ground beneath my feet. I felt honored to enter an area that doesn’t get much human traffic. I stood amazed by all that we don’t see.
