Letter #8: Don’t wait. Now’s a good a time as ever to do it.

I’ve been working on the sister publication to 100NW called 1%b. (1percentbraver.com) for about four months now. It’s going to launch June 30th.

I’m frantically trying to pull together all the loose ends. Setting up the member’s portal, putting the finishing touches on the e-magazine, making sure that when the founding members sign up, everything is operating as expected.

It’s slightly stressful, but it’s a good sort of stress — because I control every moment of it. I’m not being told what to do by a higher authority. My vision was to create a community where people who felt vulnerable could become courageous and see their vulnerabilities as their strength.

It’s my biggest venture to do date. It could all fall into a heap on launch day. I think I’m prepared for it. All I know is that no matter what happens, I will persevere. I will push through the tough time at the beginning and see it through.

What excites me the most isn’t what happens on launch day, but what this venture will look like in one year’s time.

Long term thinking is powerful and by having members who rely on me to produce inspirational material month after month, I can stay in it for the long run.

Responsibility can be a life hack too!

I let myself dream of having a magazine that has thousands of subscribers and being able to tell people I’m the Editor in Chief — bit of a brag, I know — but only if I see it through and grit my teeth through the tough times.

I’m glad I started when I wasn’t ready and just did it. Eventually, I’ll write and share a post with you that details the things I had to overcome early on to create the community and magazine in the first place.

But if there’s one lesson I could leave you with today it’s this. Just start. It’ll be messy. It’ll be ugly. You’ll want to quit — many times.

Don’t quit. Keep going. Each time you push past a barrier. You change.

You grow. You aren’t completely you anymore. You’re You Version 1.0, then 1.1, then 1.12…

A warm welcome to:

The diversity in writers on 100NW is what makes this publication so special. The stories — real snippets into the minds of imperfect individuals from all over the world — complete the picture of what it means to be human.

To all writers — thank you. To the readers who engage with the writers and take the time out of your day to read these stories — thank you.

I can’t do this without you.

J.
