Life Abuse

Life sometimes, can be an abusive lover

Mood swings, bad temper

spontaneously

Can take you on a captivating moonlit date,

hold your hand and gaze at you passionately

while you laugh

It can hold your face in its palms

and whisper in a way that only it can

that you are breathtaking,

more than a dream come true

And hours later…punch you in the face it held

slap you with the hand that once held yours

Insult the body it worshiped

Cut its eyes at you with a glare

worse than your enemy can

Life can try to help you up

But in a fit of unimaginable anger,

knock you down again

and kick you until you bleed

and cannot breathe

And just when you take

what you perceive

to be your very last breath,

it will grab you from the ground,

kiss you on the forehead

and begin to patch up your wounds

like it didn’t cause them

You begin to heal with life on your side

Quickly forgetting that life is the one that hurt you

You’re strong and full

and loved again

Until ….

Life loses its temper

Again
