One week in
Can you feel the pressure?
Today marks one week since I begun publishing again on 100 Naked Words. I’ll be honest, the momentum has dropped off. Can I tell you that I’m totally comfortable that I feel this way?
I’ve been writing for over 10 years in various formats. I’ve experienced the ups and downs of content creation and am familiar with burnout. Like all good things, success comes not from flash-in-the-pan events, e.g. articles going viral, but from consistent effort irrespective of how many reads, likes, claps or dollars you get.
What’s more important is writing for the right reason. I’ll say it again for the people in the back (and also because this is something that I need to remind myself of this year):
What’s more important is writing for the right reason.
Yes, you are nothing without your readers, but readers ultimately will read people who they feel a connection to. If you don’t know what to write, here’s a safe bet: write about the thoughts and feelings that occupy your heart and mind.
As hokey as that sounds, it’s a foolproof way of making sure that your content comes out as being authentic. There’s enough drivel and mass produced content in the world. We’re only scrolling endlessly because we want to find something to connect to on a deeper level.
Keep this focus and writing 100 words a day — or a 1,000 words a day even — will be less challenging.
