As I sat in church today, praying for my husband as he is about to undergo yet another scary procedure, I thought about our pastor’s message and how it applied to us.

Today is the first day of Advent, and this was our Advent prayer;

Loving God, we remember today in this beginning of Advent, that you came down to earth and showed us love. As we enter into this season of waiting, we wait with anticipation. We anticipate because we know that your goodness overcomes. We anticipate because we know your love never ends. As a people of your making, let your love be our love. Flood us with your cleansing love by the work of your Holy Spirit that we may love as you do. Let us just not love you, help us love our neighbor, even our enemy. Let us love ourselves knowing that we are your children, the children of your making. Show us the way O God to love as Christ loved, and loves. We pray this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

He then spoke about how our God has a “down to earth” love. It was a good message and one that I needed to hear today. I have complete faith that my husband will come through this just fine and the doctors will be as gentle as they possibly can. I’m praying that God’s love fills him with peace and gets him through the anticipation of the procedure, one that is painful, but necessary. If you would like to say a prayer for peace, love and healing, this would be greatly appreciated.

I also pray that we can all try as a nation to love one another and do more for our neighbors as well as our friends and family. I realize that our nation is divided, let us try to come together during this holiday season and beyond, to bring peace and comfort to a tired nation. Let’s pray that love is the glue that holds our country together.
