Project 365: Day 209 — Shutting shop
The company I first got a full time job at when I joined advertising is shutting shop at the end of this month.
I feel quite bad for those that will be unemployed, especially those with bigger pay packages. Indeed, if I were part of such a company at my current salary, I’d be worried. I really feel for those folks.
The company, not so much. I’m very fortunate to be working with some of those people right now; ex-colleagues who floated their own company and also to have made and retained some excellent friendships.
Nowhere else would I have found the affection I did with these people. This company, and the person who hired me in particular also taught me what rigour is. In an industry famous for being left brained, it’s very easy to get swept away. It’s only processes and discipline that keeps people rooted.
When I look back, I also realize how naïve I was and how there were people looking out for me then. You only get that when you’re a minion in your first job. Not later. I suppose that’s a good thing because how else will you go unless responsibility is thrust upon your shoulders?
I hope all of these people, even some of the not so deserving ones find their way out of this tough place. I hope they get good jobs that’ll keep their households running. I hope they stay optimistic through these tough times.
Sending a prayer their way.
That’s it for today. Thanks for reading!
