Project 365: Day 82 — Progress in the face of incompetence

It’s something I’ve often wondered. I have no sense of entitlement, no chip on my shoulder when I say this, but some people just don’t deserve to get ahead. I’ve seen more modest, hard working people languish and complete idiots get away with the accolades.

I’ve had the misfortune of working alongside a few such dolts and it always amazes me how people get away with shit as an excuse for their job. More than once, I’ve been one of the people called on to clean up their shit and I don’t wonder why anymore. These people know someone will pick up after them. There will always be someone getting the job done when they see work suffering. Unfortunately I’m one of these people.

But I always, always wonder, how do these people get ahead? How do they build 10 years’ worth of “credibility” in their résumés? Especially when they can’t pull off anything without piggybacking on someone else’s shoulders. I just don’t understand it.

What is also beyond me is how people thrive doing nothing. They’re more than happy to let someone else do the dirty work but how does sitting idle and whiling away your time and being unproductive not get to you? I would go mad surely. Yes we all need a break, but too long a break certainly isn’t appreciated.

Whatever the case, I hope these people get their just desserts some day. Karma is a crazy, fun bitch.
