Can’t remember where I saw this but it stuck with me.

I think it’s a good principle for thinking about thinking. Having strong beliefs allows you to commit, to stand up for what you believe, to act consistently, with determination. It gives you identity and character and can thus win you trust.

But holding your strong beliefs loosely allows you to stay open-minded, persuadable and flexible. It permits and encourages others to reason with you and present you with new ideas. Nobody likes to argue with someone who’s already made up her mind.
