Reflections, Ripples and Ramblings of a Restless Mind
China, China, China. Everybody’s talking about China. Folks in the States are talked about Jai-na. If your close to the action you may even know about One Belt One Road, or even 十三五 (and if you don’t, ping me later).
Today I attended the Silicon Dragon event in London for the second year in a row.
And though there remained a bullishness in the air, it was tempered with caution.
My own experience on doing business in China (which is cursory when juxtaposed against the complexity of the reality) aside; China continues to enthrall the tech world.
But did they learn nothing from Uber I say? Have they thought through their decision I ask? And because it’s a yuge market, does it follow that it’s a real opportunity?
China is exciting, it’s changing, it’s opening and it’s certainly preparing itself to fill the void the west is, almost gleefully, creating through nationalist rhetoric and protectionist attitudes.
Caveat emptor has it the wrong way around in my (very personal) opinion — rather it is the seller that should beware; China is open for business —but it’s going to be on their terms, not yours.
