The People’s Princess
Reflections, Ripples and Ramblings of a Restless Mind
If you were to wander into Hyde Park over the coming weeks, and then trundle along to Kensington Palace; you’d be a fool not to take a peak at the current exhibition opening on the 24th of February — Diana: Her Fashion Story
As a member of the Historical Royal Palaces, I was lucky enough to have been able to score tickets to the pre-launch viewing and went along with my wife to have a peek.
Now, there are by no means hundreds of gowns to see so the exhibition does not take hours to view, but everything from the elegant sari inspired outfit to the iconic velvet gown she wore at the White House speak of Princess Di’s poignant and understated style, her ability to carry herself with elegance and composure, irrespective of the weight on her shoulders.
We gazed at the wall projection which showcased the simple ease with which she moved from royal events to humanitarian missions, mixing with heads of state to children, the sick, amputees — to those who more than celebrity, needed compassion.
I was maybe too young to be interested, too self absorbed; but even in this small exhibition, it was clear why she was thought of by the world as; The People’s Princess.
