Waking up in Trump’s America

When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

America has been telling us who he is for a long time, but even I was playing the naive girlfriend trying to explain my abusive relationship to my friends like “Girl, you just don’t know him like I do. He’s not always like that. He can change. He just needs a good woman.” And my friends give me that look tinged with concern and pity because they can see that it’s myself I’m trying to convince.

But they know what we’re finally starting to realize- We may not make it out alive.
