When I leave this place

When I leave this place I will thank it, for being a home we loved well. I will thank the walls for keeping us safe. The windows for giving us light. I will thank each room for their memories. The roof over our heads for being shelter.

When I leave this place I will leave with more gratitude than sadness. We spent our first days married here. We had our first child here. I learned how to build community in deeper ways here. I had countless nights with family here. Too many walks to the beach to count. I also learned the stress of obligation to rent much too high, and the free feeling knowing we can walk away when we want to a simpler life.

When I leave this place there will be tears, but I hope the next people in this home will be has happy as we have been. That these walls will know joy again. The ground will feel the steps of people who love this home and consider it a sacred place. I hope they treat it with the same care we did. Though we never owned it, we treated this home with great respect, pride and love.

When I leave this place I will love it just as much as I do today. Smiling, looking up at the vaulted ceilings watching light bounce all around the room. I know I will wake up in a new home. We don’t know where it will be, or what it will look like but it’s waiting for us. Waiting for our memories. Waiting for our love. Waiting for our laughter. I will wake up there just as I do here and say, “Another amazing day, in a home I love with the family I love.” Because home is wherever we are together.

What if you had the courage to only do the work you love?

How much happier would you be? What separates the people who have the courage and those who don’t? Vulnerability. Accepting that they’re good enough to do the work that gives their life meaning.

1percentbraver.com is a community of people all ready to accept that they’re good enough. They get access to an online magazine that tackles problems like maintaining peak personal performance and how to promote yourself. They also get access to a recorded interview with a person of influence who’s used their vulnerability to empower instead of weaken themselves.

Next edition launches July 28th. Click here to apply to join the Braver Shortlist and tell me what work gives your life meaning. If you’re a good fit, you will have a spot saved for when the community re-opens.
