Rebecca Brunstetter ’07, Writer and Producer of NBC’s This Is Us, brings a distinctive female voice to the television industry

Rebecca Brunstetter, MFA Playwriting ’07, a prolific playwright, TV scriptwriter, and producer in Los Angeles, has built a reputation as a distinctive female writer in the male-dominated television industry.

She is also the writer and producer for NBC’s powerful, poignant hit show, This Is Us. Her recent projects include The Cake, a play that opened in L.A. in 2017 and opened in New York City in 2019. She recently received a grant from the Dramatists Guild Foundation.

She has written for MTV’s Underemployed and I Just Want my Pants Back, ABC Family’s Switched at Birth, and Starz’s American Gods.

Her plays include The Cake (Ojai Playwrights Conference), Going to a Place Where You Already Are (South Coast Repertory), The Oregon Trail (Portland Center Stage Fall 2016, O’Neill Playwrights Conference; Flying V) Cutie and Bear ( Roundabout commission) A Long and Happy Life (Naked Angels Commission), Be a Good Little Widow (Ars Nova, Collaboraction, The Old Globe), Oohrah! (The Atlantic Theater, Steppenwolf Garage, the Finborough Theater / London), Nothing is the End of the World (except for the end of the world) (Waterwell productions), and House of Home (Williamstown Theater festival).
