The clock strikes 9, you turn around and look at the painting. Boom! The scent of the evening flowers, the chirping of the crickets in the background and the sudden gust of wind. Boom! An infinity in a moment. A person, an emotion, a memory, a smile— What colour is your nostalgia?

The meditatory moment while tuning a guitar string, the seconds between buttoning your crisp white shirt, the cool breeze and the warmth of the charcoal; the minutes passing by while you wait for your corn to be roasted. What triggers your nostalgia?

The beautiful fragrance of momos as the steamer is opened, the oozing drops of coconut water as it’s pierced to quench someone’s thirst, the tannin in your wine. Driving in your car, an auto ride in the rain, the slow pace of a manned rickshaw, the announcement on the metro, the tiredness in the eyes of your Uber driver. Is this your nostalgia?

What do you see when you get nostalgic? Faces, words, names, sounds, smells, poems, roads, smiles, frowns, tears of sorrow and tears of joy?

Well, that’s what ever mattered to you. Things that kick in your nostalgia — that was all that there ever was. In that moment and now.

And the coat you wore to Alton Towers,
Is still the way I see you now.
