How much
Adults had a magic power of knowing how much. Washing powder in the machine, oil in a pan, time until the train.
Every activity involved at least one how much question.
Adults read books and papers. But they never consulted any writing before doing an activity requiring a how-much answer. They must have just memorised it all. I feared I’d never learn all of the how-much that was there to learn.
Grandma was my calibration coach. She showed me when it was not enough flour for cake, and too much time in the sea, not enough Nutella on bread, and too much sadness.
