IKEA train

Nobody else wanted to climb, especially not grandma.

When we went to the coast with a night train, I always wanted the middle or top bed. It was different, my own little space.

The whole compartment was like a self-contained little house. Lift the table — there’s a washbasin, fold the middle bed you have a place to sit. The sheets always crisp and neat. It all gave me an IKEA feel, before I knew what IKEA was.

All necessities were in the bags, we’d lock the door and it was our private 10-hour mini-world.
