Story idea: Golden Flow
In the final years of the Vietnam War, President Nixon initiated what the soldiers came to call Operation Golden Flow.
Opiate use was normal amongst soldiers. They could get good quality heroin, and they were in an environment that was conducive to drug use, what with the boredom and horror of war.
As addictive as heroin is, most soldiers could kick it. All you had to do was tell them that they had to pee in a cup and have it test clean before they could get on a plane and get out of there.
This story is about two soldiers. Best friends. Michael is fit to go home. Phillip is still fighting.
