Staying focused is a battle these days. When just about everything is “free” it becomes more valuable than ever to capture your attention. So, there’s always someone trying to distract you to make a buck.

How can you stop being hooked on social media? How can you stop reading the news a hundred times a day? How can you stop bingeing on Netflix? How can you be productive instead?

To not do one thing you need to find another thing that is more appealing. That thing is making your art.

If you are on a mission to discover what you have to offer, and to bring it out into the world, every moment you spend distracted is a moment you aren’t following your art. It’s a moment you aren’t pursing your true potential.

Next time you want to put down your smartphone, pick up your paints, a book, or a portable word processor instead.
