Persevering through a big creative project is hard. The huge task of writing an entire novel, or painting the whole Sistine Chapel ceiling, or planning an entire menu for your Michelin-star restaurant is too big. You can’t get the dopamine hits to move you forward today.

With the dual strategy, you keep a tiny artistic habit. Meanwhile, you use the fruits of that habit to build a larger whole. They are the dabs of clay that build up to a mound that you can finally sculpt.

The dual strategy shatters starting resistance, while building momentum. It creates a grab-bag of your own personal tricks, which you can mix and match to make great art.
