There are methodologies out there for developing the perfect product. Identify the customer, then ask the customer questions. After that, develop and test a product with that customer, then refine it.

It sounds really appealing. Follow these steps, and you’ll be a success. But does it really work that way?

I find it much more interesting and motivating to start with the making. To make something that’s purely a product of your idiosyncrasies and curiosities.

Then you put it into the world and ask “what is this?” Once you get the answer, then refine it so it’s a better version of what it is. Then, maybe ask the people who liked it so you can make another.
