You don’t have to be an expert

A common excuse I hear for not blogging is “I’m not an expert.” You don’t have to be an expert.

You can write about what you know, what you don’t know, and what you learn along the way. As long as you’re honest about it, your writing will resonate with someone. It’s a false sense of expertise that will fall flat.

In my first blog posts, 13 years ago, I blogged about learning to redesign my blog. A year later, I got a job in Silicon Valley. Several years after that, I wrote a book about web design.

It’s by not being an expert that you become an expert.
