Visualize Organisms who’ve been sequenced

I was looking at this story http://www.yourgenome.org/facts/timeline-organisms-that-have-had-their-genomes-sequenced and I was disappointed that there wasn’t a nice visualization. I think a simple start would be to make a nice timeline. Here is a nice timeline, but I don’t think it totally fits the use case.

A more sophisticated attempt would be to integrate the timeline with phylogenetic tree, and even better, utilize genomic similarity to understand “coverage” by each of these attempts.
