As we head into 2024, there’s a lot to look forward to. As per our tradition, to kick off the year we’ll do a final lookback on 2023 with our annual A State Of Dance Music report, celebrating the top artists, tracks, labels, radio shows, live sets, contributors and moments from the past year. Then in March, Miami Music Week is around the corner, and we’re cooking up plans for our biggest year in Miami yet. And once we reach Miami Music Week, it’s time for Ultra and the festival cycle to begin again!

We’re joined today by longtime 1001Tracklists contributor ClamChowder today for an interview!

Can you please introduce yourself and tell us about where you live and what you do?

ClamChowder: My name is William, I live in Québec City, Canada, and I work as a supervisor for community centers and as a part time DJ!

When did you first get into dance/electronic music and what was it that got you hooked?

ClamChowder: I first got into dance and electronic music by listening to the radio at a young age. The experience of hearing songs like “Que veux-tu” by Yelle and “One More Time” by Daft Punk for the first time made me want to search for more music that was similar to those songs. In early 2012, I was watching a TV program that would showcase new and popular music and the song that was playing that day sounded like nothing else I had heard before. It was more aggressive, abrasive and I knew I needed to see who it was from. The track was “Bangarang” by Skrillex. Digging into the rest of his discography and finding tracks like “Right In” and “Breakn’ a Sweat” was the moment I got hooked on electronic music and knew that this was going to be an integral part of me for the rest of my life!

What’s your favorite part about using 1001Tracklists and being a part of the active user community?

ClamChowder: My favorite part about using 1001Tracklists is that it greatly facilitates the process of crate digging and further developing my music taste. This site is the incredibly convenient answer to hearing a live show from your favorite artists and wondering what song is being played. I take great pride in being an active user by creating tracklists and adding as many suggestions for IDs as possible, especially when it’s a tracklist that is going to get a lot of attention (like RL Grime’s Halloween series for example). It feels truly rewarding to be early and find/add the name of a heavily sought after ID and I’m happy that I get to contribute to the process of discovering new music. I am super grateful that I found this website a while back, long live 1001Tracklists!
