100 Days of Code: Day 2, Day 3
Day 2:
Going to be honest here — I didn’t do any coding on this day. I was too down about life to even want to open my laptop to check my email. I basically tried to set up an environment to learn AngularJS with Yeoman for scaffolding (I’m still not sure what Yeoman is or why scaffolding is important, but hopefully I’ll find out) but I ended up just getting frustrated with Node.js and the Command Line prompts that I just stopped, griped, played Overwatch, watched my husband play Breath Of The Wild (such a beautiful game!), then attempted sleep…which didn’t occur…so I read a book for a while and tried again….twice…yeah…Day 2 was just a bad day.
Day 3:
Today I worked mostly on the new AUSA website in WordPress. I know some people will say you don’t code in WordPress since it’s a CMS (Content Management System for those new to this), but if you saw the amount of code I needed to do for my CSS and my custom buttons, you would think differently. Even with Visual Composer (best $55 spent!), it still took me a few hours to get most of my work done from my list of notes from the convention chair and I’m still not done. But it’s almost 12 o’clock midnight, so I’m going to call it in soon. Not looking forward to trying to sleep with my C-PAP mask again (which I think I’m allergic to and will get it checked out tomorrow), but it helps me breathe at night so I can’t complain.
But yes, back to the AUSA site redesign. I went with a long home page full of almost all the information you would need to find on a convention website, with links out to other pages for additional information. I messaged our awesome graphic designer to see if she could get some of the images replaced for our page titles (thinking cherry blossoms blowing in the breeze) and to go wild with what we could do with the 404 page. But progress was made tonight and I’m happy about that.
So for tomorrow, I need to add in the sections in the What To Do section for applying to the Artist Alley and Dealers Room with their respective contracts, add in the newer blog posts, and remove the guests images from last year in preparation for the new guest list this year, and I think we’ll be ready to go live soon. I hope everyone likes the new site. It’s definitely a step up from the old one, and it still has some things I would like to work on/add to increase the user experience for our site visitors, but I hope the response if generally favorable.
Well, that’s it for me tonight. Time for me to attempt sleep…yeah I couldn’t type that without laughing. I’m going to set things up for when I’m ready to attempt sleep and get ready for another day.
So as always dear readers, stay classy, be awesome, and code on!
