I once worked for a Government minister in the Ministry of Defence. He was a bit full of himself. Big ego; very much ‘what’s in it for me’. A bully and a show-off. Used his office for self-promotion and aggrandisement. One day he lost his temper demanding the photographer keep up with him shaking hands with veterans. See, not bothered about the people, just the image. I said “no”. Firmly. Leadership isn’t distracting folk with photo calls; that’s duplicitous smoke and mirrors. As Ray Kroc said “the quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they set for themselves”.
