When Instagram announced they were breaking free from their square format, most people (including myself) were glad the platform would allow for horizontal images. However, the real winner was portrait photography.

Portrait orientation literally takes up a users entire screen. What would take the viewer one thumb scroll to ignore your Instagram post, now takes at least two. There’s a shot they could see it.

Pro Tip: Crop your images with a 5:7 ratio to take advantage of the Portrait orientation on Instagram.
