I have chosen the emoji of a police officer as a representation of social media in the workplace. This is because workplaces frequently don’t have social media “police” and the onus falls on individual workers to police their actions. We’ve seen in class social media fails that have turned into social media crises. While the Red Cross were able to avert a crisis after #gettingslizzerd other companies and individuals have bombed out. People have been fired over their social media mistakes. Should companies have social media police that monitor every post before it goes out? I don’t believe so as social media needs to be communicative and based on fast-response times which would not be practical if police were employed. This is especially true for programs such as Slack which is based on discussion. YOU are the social media police for your work, be careful!
