No one wants to talk about it for various valid (and some less valid) reasons, but the number of First Nations Canadians who take their own lives is horrifically high. According to a recent Globe and Mail article, “Suicide and self-inflicted injuries are the leading causes of death among Indigenous people under 45.”

The news is grim, and interestingly, the Health Canada/Government of Canada webpage on the subject has a big banner that says “archived, we will no longer be updating,” which seems problematic to say the least.

I chose not to list all the news stories on the rates and incidences of suicide and instead to use this space to point to a few resources that might be of use:
