We had one hell of a 2019

Our pre-F1 party PR1X was one of the peaks of mayhem at 1880. Since then, some other incredible highlights include hosting Joseph Schooling, exporting our salon night to the Google campus, indulging our fetishes at Halloween, releasing our inhibitions with funk duo Tuxedo — Grammy-award winning Mayer Hawthorne and Jake Uno, getting lost in deep underground sounds with international house legend Louie Vega, and being mesmerised by British Breakthrough Artist Tom Walker and X Factor winner James Arthur.

This year, we also took 90 members and their immediate family to Dharamsala to meet with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, picked the brains of three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Thomas Friedman, provoked the mind of hardware hacker Bunnie Huang who once worked with Edward Snowden, had a fascinating discussion with Marc Weinstein of the infamous Fyre Festival, launched the Impossible Burger at 1880, and drew a little closer to American actress Alicia Silverstone.

We are in the terrible twos now and as we learn to walk and talk, we are making big leaps in our vision for people and for 1880 in the year ahead. Our obsession in 2020 is for 1880 to be a place where individuals discover and become their best selves while building a kind and authentic community.

Everywhere I look I see a reason to be optimistic. I’m more certain than ever on what we need to focus on in 2020. Amidst recessions, plastics, and fires — my bet is on humans — our enduring love, and our quest to be better and make it better.

In March, we will be making a trip to Bhutan. We will learn about Gross National Happiness, discuss global climate change, and delve into female empowerment. We are also hoping to return to Dharamsala to meet with His Holiness the Dalai Lama again, this time with business leaders from our 1880 community who wish to incorporate compassion into their companies.

We don’t just want to be a place for spectators but a place for participators. Too many people are working on themselves, and not enough on their connections with one another. The individual search for happiness is taking us to the gym, retreats around the world, and a plethora of seminars and conferences. But the remedy lies very simply in the kindness we have towards one another.

So come laugh and love with us. Come join the conversation.
