To say that human rights has a birthday sounds a bit odd, right?

Human rights should be a timeless universal right, but it was officially established as a special day following World War II.

The United Nations in 1948 created the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and is observed every December 10th. The declaration, according to the United Nations is a milestone document proclaiming,

“The inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being — regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.”

This landmark document is the most translated document in the world and available in more than 500 languages. The document has stood the test of time and it is as relevant today as it was in 1948.

While it has not yet been fully realized, much progress has been made with more and more governments implementing human rights in to their legal structure.

The document has 30 articles including the following:

  • Article 1. All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
  • Article 3. Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.
  • Article 5. No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
  • Article 20. Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.

These 30 articles serve to empower us all and to embody the underlying fundamental factor to work for a better world.

A Better Future

The universal declaration are at the heart of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals which are also at the core of 1M1L’s mission.

Without human dignity, sustainable development cannot occur. People are at the heart of this.

The mission that a better world starts with you and an ideal world where anyone can work to make a strong positive impact towards a sustainable future.

1M1L will be headlined by an exposition where anyone can upload a photo, pick one of the 17 sustainable development goals and share your message.

  • Share what you care about.
  • Share what you want to see.
  • Share your dreams. Share your goals.
  • Share how you are working to meet one of these goals.

The goal? To connect and empower 1 Million people worldwide who may share those common interests to have those social projects become a reality.

Stay tuned :)

Happy Human Rights Day, Today and Forever.
