How RAYE Took on the Music Industry — And Won

The breakthrough British artist is set to be the next big thing after breaking free from her record label

Even if you think you don’t know of RAYE, you probably still do — she has written songs for the likes of Beyonce, Charli XCX and Little Mix, and produced records for John Legend and Rihanna. And you may have heard her voice before you’ve heard of her, because she sang on some of the biggest dance-pop hits of the last decade, featuring on songs with artists like Jax Jones and David Guetta.

And more recently, you may have heard her songs as snippets on Instagram and TikTok where her material has gone viral many times over.

She’s currently starting her worldwide tour, and she’s already made a splash performing on SNL and at Coachella, where her set was described as a highlight of the weekend.

For me, it’s a joy that she’s taking over different parts of the world than just the UK where she’s from, and where she’s already almost reached legendary status.

She is by far one of the most interesting artists that Britain has produced in recent years: she’s a powerhouse vocalist and an incredible writer, and her debut album is one of the best I’ve heard in ages. She goes from genre to genre — pop, R&B…
