Latin urban music contains many different genres. Some artists include elements of R&B in their music. Others descend from Reggaeton artists like Daddy Yankee and Sean Paul. This article will focus on one specific subgenre of Latin urban music, Latin Trap.

Originating in Atlanta where artists like T.I. and Gucci Mane were rapping about life in their neighborhoods. The word “trap” represents the environment where drugs are sold illegally. Sonically, the songs use synthesized drums, hard-beats and a dark synthetic atmosphere. The music of early 2000’s American trap artists, however, did not directly influence musicians across the border. The internet is responsible for its expansive transmission a decade later.With the advent of music sharing sites like SoundCloud young artists like Bad Bunny and Messiah uploaded music for millions of listeners, without a label.
