Finding time for things that matter
Is it a matter of prioritisation?
Lately I have been watching more videos to unpack how some people manage their time, in part out of curiosity, but also in part because I do find that aspect of my life to be slipping.
This TEA method has been popping up in my feed: Time, Energy and Attention. The framework recommends taking a more systematic, principled approach to planning time instead of just fancy calendaring or rigid scheduling. Instead, stick to a plan and focus with awareness of your own physiological states.
KevZ explains that thinking big but limiting opportunities ironically could lead to better outcomes. His personal example of choosing INSEAD and only INSEAD to prep and apply for his MBA (while beingfully aware of the many other MBA options like Harvard, Oxford, MIT, etc). In doing so, he could optimize networking among INSEAD, write a better personal statement and more.
Back then as a teacher, a common sentiment I hear is that students want to keep their options open. But this paradox of choice ironically often ends up causing individuals to procrastinate on finding their life focus. One is given permission to put off deciding (or even the act of exploration and discovery) under the illusion that I have kept my options open.
