April 11: Bridal Shower

It’s a foreign country here on the bar patio, in the sun, couples brunching all up and down the street at other bar patios, under other umbrellas, having other conversations probably also about the niceness of the day and the tastiness of the food. It might as well be a foreign country. I understand nothing.

Girls in dresses talk about weddings, and play games that involve not saying the word “wedding.” This does not seem like a particularly challenging game. There are white brides decorating the tables, bright balloons declaring the event. Everyone snacks on small plates and watches presents get opened, all wrapped in the same silver pattern. Everyone on the same page, except for me.
