Less Meat , New Me
For years, I haven’t really thought about how and where my food comes from. I was just like everyone else. As long as you have a decent meal on the table, you will be happy. But currently my perspective has changed. After watching the documentary Cowspiracy, I wanted to make a change. I wanted to prove to myself that if I change my diet , it will create a beneficial impact to the world. The actions that are occurring today, can jeopardize my future. If we don’t make a change, we will never see our planet the same way.
Animal agriculture is the number #1 reason of greenhouse gases emission. Kip Anderson talked to many environmental companies and they denied that animal agriculture was main reason. This shocked me because they should be role models. Many people look up at them and believe that they are making great changes for the planet.
Animal agriculture uses a lot of resources. For a 1 lb of beef requires 2,500 gallons of water. Animal agriculture is responsible for 20% -33% of all freshwater consumption in the world. For every cow, 2–5 acres are used. 414 billion dollars in externalized cost from animal agriculture.
Choosing a project wasn’t easy for me. But at last, I choose to reduce my meat diet. This project bring positive outcomes when it comes to health. According to Harvard, the more red meat you eat, the higher the possibility of dying at a younger age. Also you can have a higher risk for colorectal cancer. It can also reduce having the risk of diabetes and lower blood pressure.
Overall, this project will help me have a healthier lifestyle and make a beneficial impact to our planet. I’m just a young woman who is trying to something better for this planet because I care. I care about the damage we’re making as a society and the impacts that will bring to us. Doing a change isn’t hard, you just have to commit.
