And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? — Luke 24:38

Why are you troubled?

In his final weeks with his disciples, Jesus promises them that he will come back. Before he was taken to the Cross, Jesus invited his disciples to trust him. He often repeats, be of good cheer. And to you and me, the same expression is repeated.

Let not your heart be troubled. This is a wonderful saying. many things in this world can bring trial and confusion to our soul, but Jesus invites us to keep our eyes on him. The same God that cares for the little birds care also for us.

The reason that so many are troubled is that they do not make God but confidence. Mine are perplexed because they refused to make Jesus their hope. When Jesus is our Hope when Jesus is our strength we have nothing to fear. What times we are afraid? Let us trust in him.

You

Dear reader, what troubles you? You may be in great distress. You may have many things on your mind. You may encounter many difficulties. You may have trials to overcome. You may have had a great disappointment. But there is hope for you, yes even for you.

The promise is to all. “Come unto me,” says Jesus, “and I will give you rest.” How wonderful! Is this not a promise for you also? Most assuredly. You too, dear reader, can come to Jesus. Come with all your troubles. Come with all your care. And he will provide peace and cheerfulness.

Why do thoughts arise in your heart?

Throughout the days and the seasons, many thoughts arise in our hearts, but God can help. And the book of Philippians, we are commanded to meditate upon worthy things; however, we do find our minds filled with vain thoughts. We need not worry. We can renew our minds and hearts at the feet of Jesus.

As we contemplate upon the love of Christ, the great sacrifice that was made on our behalf, we will find great reasons to rejoice. Instead of troubles, instead of worries, we will have great confidence in our savior and our God. As often as we do this, we shall find a reason, like the Apostle, to be anxious for nothing.
