Opportunities for Governmental Agencies

In my opinion, I think it is important for governmental agencies to interact consistently on social media and on other digital platforms. The online presence of these organizations is critical because they are able to rely content authentically and in real time on a platform that is accessible to many. Personally, I believe many government agencies own a negative representation to the average citizen. However, the augmentation in digital presence presents an opportunity for increased transparency. In an article by Synthesio, titled “Leveraging Social Media for Government Agencies,” the author highlights three opportunities governmental agencies have when posting content online. Governmental agencies are able to educate the community, engage with peers, and handle important issues all on social media.

The findings of this article are consistent with what another colleagues in the class mentioned. More importantly, social media allows for a two way conversation between agencies and intrigued citizens. Additionally, this article makes reference of social listening and its pertinence to governmental agencies when seeking information about hot-button topics.
