I came across this pretty text editor when a programmer posted his codes there. He explained how his codes worked, but all I noticed is this online free text editor.

HackMd is really good for the purpose: Display both of the codes and English sentences together. It’s good for explaining the programmer’s intension. Below is a piece of C source code snippet with words:

Another very useful function is we could create real-time collaborative notes. While we edit or modify the sentences on the left side, we could see the immediate result on the right side.

We could also send the URL of this online notes to someone else, and they could edit this notes freely. This online text editor is more like a collaborative notes here.

Of course, if you’re a writer and all you want is type, it’s also well suited for this purpose. Moreover, we could group several noted into a “book”. Grouping notes into a book makes sharing and managing knowledge a lot easier.

Should I use HackMD

You may ask: is there any difference between HackMd and Medium?

I’ll say Medium is more like a blog or platform to share your articles. HackMD behaves more like online notes. It could be your own notes and share them to others. Or it could also be the collaborative notes with your teammates or colleagues.

Medium is about publication. HackMD is putting your personal notes online and allow others to add on more contents.

If you happened to use HackMd before, please don’t hesitate to tell me about your experience here.
