MLS, NWSL national TV broadcasts are at the same time many times in 2017 đş
On Sunday, ESPN televised the U.S. womenâs national teamâs game vs. Russia and the Orlando City-New York Red Bulls Major League Soccer game as a back-to-back twinbill.
Unfortunately, if you are a fan of both menâs and womenâs soccer, the rest of this year is not going to be quite as convenient.
For as many virtues as the National Womenâs Soccer Leagueâs new television deal with Lifetime brings, it also has a significant vice. Many of the NWSLâs Saturday afternoon national broadcasts are at the same hour as national broadcasts of MLS games.
This means that unless you have enough devices to watch multiple games at once (or a television with good picture-in-picture), youâre going to have to choose one game or the other.
As such, the potential audiences for each game will decrease to some degree. Just what degree that will be is a matter of opinion for now. But I think we can all agree that there is some number of viewers who would watch both games separately if given the opportunity.
Hereâs the list of simultaneous MLS and NWSL broadcasts this year. Iâve included not just national TV games, but also locally-broadcast MLS games and simultaneous NWSL broadcasts on the go90 streaming platform, U.S. national team games and CONCACAF Gold Cup games.
The simultaneous NWSL games have been scheduled in case the Lifetime crew has to switch to another game due to bad weather or other conditions.
