SIXERS ARE ALL IN FOR NBA’S 2K E-SPORTS GAMING LEAGUE FOR 2018! 🕹
Seventeen National Basketball Association franchises are all in for a new NBA 2K E-sports league launching in 2018.
And the Sixers are the most excited to participate in the new esports league, which plans to draw upon the success of its esports franchise Team Dignitas that it purchased in September 2016 and has prominently promoted since.
“With the announcement of the NBA 2K league, forward-thinking franchises, like the Sixers, further cement their position as true innovators and leaders in the sports industry,” said Team Dignitas CEO Jonathan Kemp. “The NBA, the Philadelphia 76ers, Team Dignitas and NBA 2K are storied, global brands with massive international fan-bases eager for player access, original content, live events and more. When you combine that industry experience and desire to grow the game of basketball with the esport fan’s insatiable appetite for content and access, the result will be a league of epic proportions for fan, players, brands and the league.”
The Sixers are set to capitalize on the new NBA 2K E-sports league, but the league is not guaranteed to be a success among potential spectators.
It has been noted that less than 1% of gaming is in professional E-sports. Furthermore, themost popular esports games multiplayer online battle arena (MOBAs) like League of Legends and Dota 2 as well as shooting games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Actual sport-style esports games, i.e. NBA 2K, are much less proven at this point-in-time.
Among the other teams participating are last year’s NBA Finals franchises, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors.
Players participating from several NBA teams will be announced in the near future, and it is anticipated that many will be interested in participating in competitions involving NBA 2K, a video game series published by Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., which brings in roughly $1.5 billion in annual sales company-wide.
NBA 2K is currently the highest-rated and highest-revenue-generating sports title in North America and the second-highest sports game globally.
NBA2K will be the sixth game with an esports league in which the Philadelphia 76ers’ Team Dignitas will compete. (below)
