3 Reasons You Should Create Content

Even if you don’t think you have anything to share

A year ago, I learned about content creation. First through YouTube, then Medium, then through blogs and podcasts.

Before I considered making money from content, I was interested in the idea of sharing the tips that I had realized through the years that would make others' lives easier.

I loved talking with people and sharing my advice with them. Content creation would allow me to share this advice with anyone that could find my content.

Over the last year, I have tried my hand at every form of content creation and have become passionate about the different ways to be successful in it. However, what I realized most about content creation is that anyone can be successful at it and most people should produce content.

Reason #1: Someone Needs To Hear From You

The primary reason to create content is to benefit someone’s life. This benefit can range from making someone laugh to educating them to just giving advice on a topic.

While you may feel like content creation is saturated, every voice is unique. You could benefit someone that no one else could help.

Or you could be the second opinion someone needs before making a choice.

No matter the medium, create content to help others and make the world a little brighter.

Reason #2: Explore Your Passion

Creating content allows you to explore your passion and share it with others.

You do not have to be passionate about writing, videography, or photography. Creating content about or around your passion can allow you to explore it even deeper.

Content creation can also allow you to prioritize your passion with regularity. The best way to create content is to be consistent. Therefore, if your content is your passion or is about your passion, it will force you to regularly engage with your passion.

Reason #3: Content Creation Provides Flexibility

I will not pretend that everyone who starts creating content will be able to or should make it a full-time job. However, there is money to be made through content creation. Therefore, creating content regularly could provide you with some extra flexibility in your life. Even making a couple extra hundred dollars a month can open up doors to a better vacation, paying off debt, or upgrading your living.

Outside of money, creating content can provide new opportunities. The biggest opportunity that I have seen from my content creation is relationships with new people. From having comment conversations with other writers to recording podcast episodes with other academics, the relationships you make through content creation can be great!

How to Create Content

If you are interested in creating content, making content does not need to be a major decision. You don’t need to spend any money, quit your job, or make any final decisions. The two things you need to do are to decide what type of content you are going to make and where you will post it.

There is such a variety of content that you can make including video, audio, writing, and photography. Content creation is so great because you can easily post your content for free despite the type of content you choose. If you want to write, post on Medium. If you want to create videos, film with your phone and upload to YouTube. If you want to share audio, upload podcast episodes to Anchor.fm.

Ultimately, all you need to do to create content and opening up all these opportunities is try making content. If you feel like making content isn’t for you, try it. If you don’t like it, then stop.

For those of you that start producing content, I hope you find the reward and enjoyment from creating content that I have found.
