Due to my ADHD, I have executive function problems. For me this means keeping things in working memory and so if a task is not interesting to that part of my brain I will struggle with planning, organising, strategising, paying attention to and remembering details and managing time and space. It makes it difficult to complete certain tasks, follow through on plans and maintain focus.

One of the ways I combat this by body doubling. Body doubling involves having another person present* while you work on tasks. (*Could be in person but also works online.)

  • This presence provides external structure and accountability.
  • It helps reduce feelings of isolation, making tasks feel less daunting.
  • The presence of another person can minimize distractions and enhance focus.
  • It encourages task initiation, helping individuals start tasks they might otherwise procrastinate on.

I arrange to be on a Zoom call or a cameras off session with someone (or more than one person) while we all work on whatever it is we need to.

I run a session (currently free) called Get it Done on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. It starts at 9:00 and carries on until 12:00 when we have a Fika or a coffee break with cameras on and a chat for anyone who would like to.

Join any time on a Tuesday or Thursday morning. Here is a signup link:
