Both are mammoths in home conditions. One has an arsenal of variations, the other sticks to a classical craft. Who would you pick?

My Verdict

In terms of the purest form of the game which is of course Test Cricket, I would have to go with Nathon Lyon. Lyon is excellent in home conditions and has proved on numerous occasions that he isn’t a ‘home track bully’. For example, during the Ashes tour last year Nathan Lyon was the sole spinner to be on the list of the leading wicket-taker of the series, with the likes of Archer, Cummins, Hazelwood and Broad being the quicks ahead of him.

Ashwin, on the other hand, hasn’t been as effective outside of the subcontinent. And when he has been, it has been only for a single Test match e.g. at the Adelaide Oval - Tour of Australia in 2019.
