These man-made disasters are increasingly common, with one of the most recent and most talked about shootings occurring in Parkland, Florida. In addition, this lack of governmental involvement has left educational institutions in share of preparing their community. Knowing the possible risks involved in such a disastrous event, schools have now devised plans to help protect its students, faculty and staff. In accordance, Long Beach State places emphasis on having multiple resources to help secure the community: most importantly, its active shooter training program. To protect and prepare the campus community, the University Police Department has started offering group training for students. They can easily request training by simply navigating the LBSU website under the UPD tab here.

If time is an issue because of school or work, there is also a YouTube video available online that can offer plenty of useful information to better prepare you, titled Run, Hide, and Fight. A visit to the University Police Department can also help assist students who have further questions on this delicate topic. Being knowledgeable on emergency preparedness topics will help you cultivate resilience and better prepare you at any given moment. Prepare yourself until new policies are created.
