Patricia Martinez: Visually extended music
Watch my interview with new music composer Patricia Martinez from Buenos Aires on her music and new music landscape in Argentina. She is an active composer, interdisciplinary artist and performer. Her creative and research interests are focused on new music composition and interdisciplinary projects, especially contemporary music theatre, new opera, symphonic and chamber works, computer music, improvisation, choreography-composition and video art. She creates music as a multidimensional expression about the “impossible”, overflowing artistic languages to interconnect them organically into a spiritual, immeasurable and poetical new music-staging dimension.
Her works received honours such as Casa de las Américas; Municipal Prize; JukeBoxx NewMusic Award 2021; Recommendation Award/International Eisenacher Bach Composition Prize 2020; Composer-in-residence at Eisler Haus of the City of Leipzig or SWR Experimental Studio Fellowship. Patricia’s works has been performed around the globe, including: Lucerne Festival Forward; Donaueschinger Musiktage; Darmstadt Ferienkurse; Music Current; Colón Theater Experimental Center; Mittersill Composers’ Forum; MATA Festival, MISE-EN Music Festival; Festival Synthese; ISCM World Music Days; Polish National Opera or Gewandhaus.
Patricia was the artistic director and founder of Compañía Helada (new opera) and she is a professor of composition at UNQ, CSMCBA and UNAM. She holds a Doctoral and a MA degree in Composition (Stanford University) and completed the Annual Course at the IRCAM.
