TUE campus

everything you need to know…

--

Unless you are studying online, a university campus is one of the most important things to consider. Because you might be spending the majority of your time there or maybe even almost all of it if you live on campus. 🏠

Looks nice eh? so much green. It is located in “the ring”, which is the circular road around the city center, so very close to the train station. (1 min) Even if you take a bus from the Eindhoven Airport it will only take you 30 minutes. ⚡

What do we have on campus? besides the obvious lecture halls and labs…
- Library? ✅ 📚
- Sports center? ✅ 🏊‍♂️
- Catering? ✅ 🍽
- Common room? ✅
- Reservable spaces? ✅ ← this is really handy.
- Movie theater? ✅ 🎬
- Supermarket? ✅ 🛒
- Hairdresser? ✅ 💇‍♂️
- Daycare? ✅ 👶
- Housing? ✅ 🏠
- and lots of green areas, river valley, Startup Hub and even fire station.

Each building has a number and a NAME. And one more nice thing is every building is connected to the other one with a walking bridge, so you don’t have to go out during the rain. 🌧

I was not joking when I mentioned living on campus. There are 2 buildings (Aurora ~750 students, Luna ~430 employees) that where students and staff can live. Never be late again for your courses 🤣

There is still some space available for future use. Currently, TUE has a campus real estate strategy 2030 with 2.9m2 educational space per student for 14'500 students. Also, 2 more housing towers (~735 students) are being built and will be in service and managed by Vestide this autumn.

Unfortunately, I don’t live on campus, but my house is also within the ring and it is still managed by Vestide, so relatively cheap one. 💲

The biggest thing for me is the sports center. Whether you play basketball, football, sand volleyball, squash, or anything else it is most likely possible at SSCE. Make sure to attend “SSC Open Week” to get a taste of all the possibilities.

For just 108€ you can participate in all of them for a full year. I usually go swimming during lunch and play basketball on weekends. If the weather is nice outside court next to the calisthenics section is good too.

Also, if you are up for some horse riding or flying planes there are some paid lessons too. Check out all the 38 associations.

At TUE 30% of total students are international. So it is a diverse environment and social safety is an important issue. Also, there are psychologists whom you can consult if you need help.

One last thing is “Billie cup”. Since last year all the vending machines on campus have switched to reusable cups that you can rent for 1€. You can use it and give it back to fixed locations to get your money back. But if you want you can just rent it for-life too. ☕

TL;DR

In short, TUE campus is a big, green village in the heart of Eindhoven with everything you need. You can sleep, study, eat, have a drink, do some sport, get a haircut, watch a movie, and buy groceries too.

Am I missing something? 🤔
