We’re excited to announce the launch of Flare, our new vector design and animation tool!

The primary goal of Flare is to allow designers to work directly with assets that run in their final app or game (fully GPU accelerated in real-time).

There’s no need to design in one app, animate in another, then write 100-page guides to help your engineering team redo all your work in code. All the work you do in Flare is exactly what runs in your finished product. Not only does this open up your design and engineering teams to quickly iterate, but it also allows you to make great design a part of your process from the very beginning right up to the completion of your project.

Flare currently supports exporting for Flutter and for websites. Our runtimes are all open source; anybody is welcome to contribute and create new ones. For more details, take a look at our runtimes page.

Open Design

Flare is available for free as part of the Open Design movement. In short, we believe the design industry has a lot to benefit from designers sharing their entire process rather than just a final polished screenshot or video. For more in-depth information, check out our blog post on the initiative.

Getting Started

To get started with Flare, you’ll first need to create an account on 2Dimensions. Once you’re registered and you’ve verified your account, try out these tips:

  • Explore Public Files
Browse some of the public files users are already working on. This is a great way to learn from others and quickly pick up techniques. You can open their files directly in the browser.
  • Read the Manual
Our documentation is currently in its early stages (we’re working on adding to it), but it should give you a solid foundation around the core concepts of Flare.
  • Drag and Drop an SVG
Get started in Flare by exporting your existing work from other software as an SVG. Then just drag-and-drop it onto Flare.
