Be Aware of These 3 Motivational Styles
It was not until 7 years into my career that I learned about the 3 motivational styles.
1. Achievement-Motivated
Performances and achievements are very important to employees with this type of motivational style. They care about their personal contributions being recognized and they are typically goal-oriented and value personal growth within the team and the organization.
2. Affiliation-Motivated
Employees with this style value a social setting and are typically able to perform better in an encouraging and welcoming team environment. They are more motivated when relationships, empathy and cultural sensitivity are valued and they tend to be sensitive to the opinions of others.
Chances are, employees with this style would clash with achievement-motivated leaders. If they feel their emotional needs are neglected they lose the motivation to thrive and performance.
Is it the leader’s responsibility to keep employees motivated in their own preferred styles? For the interest of growing a team, investing in learning about your employees and taking initiatives to listen and be a communicator are essential for leadership.
3. Power-Motivated
Employees motivated by power are those that prefer to have clear responsibilities and defined roles and place greater emphasis on their influences on people around them. They exhibit more team spirit and care less about personal achievement.
